The holidays are behind us and it’s now time to look to a bigger and better 2018. What improvements can we make to our products? Our standard operating procedures? And what about product promotions?
In case you missed it, Amazon rolled out a new Social Media Promotion option for Amazon sellers last fall. There is a caveat, of course. You must be Brand Registered! If you still need to get your brand(s) registered, check out this link to get more info. Amazon changed its requirements for the Brand Registry program late spring/early summer of 2017, so be sure you are up to date on those revisions.
We are always looking to test out the latest and greatest updates in the Amazon space so we gave the Social Media Promotion option a test drive. Overall, it’s as easy to set up as a standard percentage-off promotion. You can see if this option is available in your Amazon Seller Account by hovering over the Advertising tab at the top of the screen. From there, click on Promotions and you should see the following options:
You’ll want to click on the first option in the top left of the screen called “Social Media Promo Code.” This new promotion will provide you with a custom URL to share on social media channels that links directly to your discounted product without the need for customers to use a promo code. This is a great tool for sellers who are just starting out and looking to build an audience for their brand as well as experienced sellers who want to expand their social media presence.
You can set this promo code up in less than a minute. Simply click the “Create” button in the Social Media Promo Code section. From there, you’ll have three steps to complete:
Simply choose your product (you’ll have a drop-down list of your Brand Registered products to choose from), select your percentage discount, schedule your desired time frame, and enter the unique promo code you want to use. It is seriously that simple! Amazon eliminated some of their advanced features offered in their Percentage Off Promotions such as quantity, tiers, and claim code type, making this 3-step process quick and easy.
You can check out Amazon’s helpful article on setting up these promo codes by logging into your Seller Central account and clicking here or you can download the PDF guide from this link. Remember Amazon will make you wait a few hours for the promotion to go live, but in the meantime, you can grab your marketing link and get to work. Head back over to:
- Manage Promotions (make sure to filter it for ‘Pending’ if your promo is not live just yet)
- Click on the Social Media Promo you just created
From there, scroll down to “Step 3: Additional Options” where you’ll find your custom marketing page URL.
Once you have the link, you can paste it into the Overgrowth link tracking feature. Post this shortened link to your social media ads so you can keep track of your clicks and shares within your Overgrowth account. Better yet, share this link with your Social Media Influencers to help get potential customers right to your product page without having to enter a unique promo code! The best part is that your organic traffic won’t have the ability to see this promotion, making it easier to track conversion rates and overall ROI on your social media promos.
